Many online services will lower their subscription prices as soon as you hit the cancel button on their web site?no negotiation required. We're curious which services you've run into that do this.
Threatening to cancel has always been a good way to get discounts on certain services, but it isn't the only way. In fact, reader Craig Lloyd notes that a lot of services?like Audible, GameFly, and others?will grant you an immediate discount just for hitting the "cancel" button under your online account settings:
GameFly offered me a month for $11.95 (normally $22.95) when I was about to cancel. I canceled again after that month and got an email a couple weeks later offering a month for only $1.00! I'll cancel again after that, so who knows what I'll get offered next.
We're wondering: what other services have you run into that do this? We would love to do a roundup of the best services that offer no-questions-asked discounts like this, but it's a hard topic to research?so we'd love to hear your experiences. That way, we can compile a more comprehensive list. Let us know if you've ever experienced this in the comments below!
To be clear, we're not really looking for services that you can call and negotiate?we've talked about that before?this is more about services that will automatically offer you a discount for cancelling, even if you aren't talking to a human on the phone about it.
